Shira Route

Shira route bypasses the Lemosho route to the west whereby the climbers are driven up to the Shira gate just a short distance from the Shira ridge. However, most climbers regard it as the same route as Lemosho because they both meet at Shira camp. This path has a distance of 56 kilometers to the summit hence the shortest route in Kilimanjaro Mountain. Moreover, Shira route is normally used for rescuing climbers affected by altitude sickness due to its quick access by the car. Hiking in this route begins at an altitude of 11,800ft above the sea level. Shira route consist of different zones which vary according to different altitude. Such zones include Shira plateau, heath, alpine sections covered with a bizarre plant which shrikes from 5 meters columns of daisy-flowered giant groundsel, flowering bulbs, red-hot pokers, tussock white everlasting flowers and many more.
